As a kid I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating something, drawing, or painting, sewing, sculpting from clay and building forts in the woods. I loved to be outside, and our house was home to all kinds of stray animals, adopted animals, and rescued animals, from dogs and cats to rodents, reptiles, rabbits, birds, and there was even my sister’s horse nearby at a barn. We camped frequently as it was an inexpensive vacation for 5 kids, once across country for five weeks taking in all the splendor of the national parks. My mother was very much into the natural way of life, no soda, no junk food, garden veggies, homemade wheat bread. I used to think she was crazy talking about antioxidants and free radicals in the 70’s. Now its a household word and on every drink label. We cleaned our house with natural products and had a compost bin under the sink for organic materials, we refinished used furniture for the house …. before it was cool to be green we were green in so many ways.
I have a deep appreciation for nature and the worlds animals. I think its truly a terrible misfortune to lose any precious species, and can’t imagine the world without polar bears, tigers, elephants, eagles, otters or any of the hundreds of endangered species there are listed now.
I mostly paint and draw in pastels, but also in watercolor and pen and ink, sometimes oils. As a digital artist, and a creative director by day, I work on a mac and have designed and illustrated for food and pen packaging, print collateral and magazine ads. I can design for the web and create animations and websites. I have my art on grocery shelves, in stationary stores, murals in my town’s school system and town hall, and private homes. I have had work in local galleries and art shows over the years. I have done commissioned work of animal portraits, people portraits and houses. I never felt the need to keep a list of them till now.. a necessary self marketing skill I lack. I will try.
I hope my art reveals my love and appreciation for nature and how it compels me to draw and paint the beauty around us, the natural precious gifts of our world.
Blessings,
Karen
